The Impact of Values in Your Business: Performance vs Embodiment

Reflecting on the integration of values in my business, I realised that, somewhere along the way, I stopped being so intentional about it. I’d had a difficult 12 months and I had become to focused on living and leading from my values in life that I guess I expected them to magically integrate into my business.

The truth is it takes intention. It about more than just listing them. Its about truly living and breathing them in every area of business and alongside every decision you make.

So, why values in business?

Your values are the backbone of what I coined ‘breathable’ business. Without them, we risk suffocating under the weight of the worlds expectations.

I've worked in environments where values were lived and breathed, and others where they were performed. The difference in how "breathable" those spaces felt was night and day.

In the age where social media often presents a perfected facade, it’s important to distinguish between performing values and truly embodying them. It's easy to claim values like "integrity" or "transparency," however the real test comes after clients commit to a course, a program, or a service. This is where a disconnect can become glaringly obvious, eroding trust, not only in the visionary also in the industry as a whole.

If you want to be sure you’re embodying your values in business, and you’re not delivering a smoke and mirrors experience to your clients I invite you to include the following question alongside every decision you make:

“Does this anchor me deeper into my value of [X], or does it pull me away from it?”

When we shift from performing values to truly embodying them, we don’t only build businesses; we craft radiant legacies that bloom for generations to come. This shift ensures that we're not only aligning our practices with our beliefs, were also nurturing connections that reinforce trust and integrity within our industry.

Your Business Values Edit

Let’s do a quick value edit. To do this you will need to have clarity of your values, these values are yours and yours alone. We will be exploring various areas of business and a single prompt to guide you in identifying where there may be any incongruence and need for deeper alignment.

Before you move ahead I want to remind you that if you find areas you are out of alignment with your values this is ok, there’s no need to guilt and shame yourself. Celebrate the fact you have cultivated a sense of awareness you didn’t before, because without awareness, positive and impactful change cannot take place.
